The short version

Your chat never leaves your device. Paperthread reads your WhatsApp export and builds the PDF with code running in your own browser. We don’t receive, see or store your messages, photos or the names in them.

What we do process

• Payments: handled by Stripe and its Link service, which acts as reseller (merchant of record) and processes your payment details under Link’s privacy policy. Stripe collects your card details and email under its privacy policy. We receive the payment confirmation (amount, date, email, country) for accounting and refunds.
• Anonymous usage counts: we count page views and steps such as “preview made” or “checkout started”, with the referring website. We don’t use cookies or tracking pixels, and we don’t store IP addresses in these counts.
• Server logs: our hosting keeps short-lived technical logs (which may include IP addresses) for security and troubleshooting.

Stored on your device

So you don’t lose your file while paying, your export is kept temporarily in your browser’s storage (IndexedDB) on your device. Choosing “Use a different file” removes it, and so does clearing your browser data. We also store your purchase token and layout preferences in localStorage.
